This is a guideline of the general requirements:
1. Age:
You must be at least 18 years old to apply to become a (CFI) Certified Flight Instructor.
2.Language Proficiency:
You must be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language fluently. The English language is the international language of aviation.
3. Experience:
You must have a minimum amount of flight experience, which typically includes:
- Hold a Commercial Pilots license with an Instrument Rating.
- Log a minimum number of flight hours determined by the FAA.
4. Knowledge Tests:
You must pass the flowing FAA knowledge tests:
- Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) Knowledge Test. This test covers teaching methods and learning techniques.
-Flight Instructor Knowledge Test. This test covers the subjects you will be teaching your students.
5. Training:
Receive and log ground and flight training from a certified flight instructor to prepare for the CFI certification.
6. Medical Certificate:
You must hold at least a third-class medical certificate issued by an FAA- authorized aviation medical examiner.
7. Checkride:
Pass a checkride with an FAA-designated pilot examiner. During the checkride, you will demonstrate your ability to teach and evaluate a student pilot.
8. Character Reference:
You must provide a character reference from someone who can vouch for your good moral character.
9.Application:
Complete and submit an application to the FAA for the CFI certificate.
