A discovery flight, also known as an introductory flight or demonstration flight, is a short flight experience offered by flight schools or flight instructors to individuals who are interested in aviation and considering flight training. The purpose of a discovery flight is to give prospective students a taste of what it’s like to fly an aircraft and to help them decide if they want to pursue flight training further.
Requirements can vary, but at minimum you must be fluent in English, at least 17 years old, as well as meeting certain medical requirements set forth by the aviation authorities.
The duration of pilot training varies depending on factors that include student’s time available, frequency of lessons, weather conditions, and individual learning pace. On average students can expect to complete basic private pilot training in approximately three to six months. Currently the National average for completing a private pilot license ( PPL) is 65 hours. Our accelerated flight school may allow students the opportunity to complete license requirements with fewer hours.
Students will go through extensive ground training that includes topics such as aerodynamics, aircraft systems, weather theory, navigation, airspace regulations, flight planning, aviation safety, as well as aeronautical charts, radio communication, and aviation regulations.
Students will also complete a set amount of flight training hours which includes a hands on experience in an aircraft with a certified flight instructor. Students will learn basic maneuvers, takeoffs, landings, navigation, emergency procedures and more. Flight training is designed to help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to safely operate an aircraft.
The cost of private pilot flight school varies widely depending on factors such as type of aircraft used for training, the number of flight hours required, as well as additional fees for materials and exams. Students should budget several thousand dollars for private pilot training.
There are several types of pilot licenses that individuals can obtain, each with its own set of privileges and requirements. Some of the most common pilot licenses are :
-Private Pilot License ( PPL ) :
This license allows individuals to fly for recreational purposes and carry passengers, but not for compensation or hire.
-Commerical Pilot License ( CPL ) :
This license allows individuals to fly for compensation or hire. Commercial pilots can be employed by airlines, charter companies, or other organizations that require pilot services.
-Airline Transport Pilot License ( ATPL ) :
This is the highest level of pilot license and is required to act as the pilot in command of an aircraft operated by an airline. ATPL holders have the most extensive training and experience requirements.
-Instrument Rating ( IR ):
This is an additional rating added to a pilots license, allowing them to fly in instrument meteorological conditions ( IMC ) using only the aircraft’s instruments for navigation.
-Multi Engine Rating :
This rating allows pilots to teach others how to fly and is required for individuals who want to become flight instructors.
-Flight instructor certificate:
This certificate allows pilots to teach others how to fly and is required for individuals who want to become flight instructors
Thes are the most common licenses and ratings Music City Air offers.
Accelerated flight school programs offer several benefits and our best suited to students interested in becoming pilots quickly and efficiently.

Accelerated flight programs offer many benefits , but they may not be suitable for every individual. These programs can be more demanding and require a significant time commitment.
Our accelerated multi engine training is a specialized program designed to help pilots obtain a multi engine rating in a shorter period of time compared to traditional training methods. This training is typically intensive and focused on quickly advancing a pilot’s skills and knowledge in flying multi engine aircraft.
Multi-engine training is necessary for pilots who want to fly aircraft with more than one engine, as it requires additional skills and knowledge compared to flying single engine aircraft. Accelerated multi engine training programs often involve dedicated instruction from experienced flight instructors, extensive ground school lessons, and a high number of flight hours in a multi engine aircraft.
This is the perfect program for pilots motivated to advance their careers or have specific time constraints. The accelerated program can be demanding and time intensive but Music City Air will help you navigate this with ease.
Part 141 and Part 61 refers to two different sets of regulations established by the Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) that governs flight training activities conducted by flight schools.
Music City Air Flight School is a Part 61 Flight School.
