    Rotary to Fixed Wing Transition Airline Transportation Pilot

    To become an Airline Transportation Pilot

    ( ATP ) there are several guidelines set forth by the Federal Aviation Association .

    This is a guideline of the general requirements:


    1. Age:

    You must be at least 23 years old.


    2.You must be able speak, write, and understand the English language fluently. The English language is the international language of aviation.


    3. Experience:

    You must have a minimum amount of flight experience, which typically includes:

    - Hold a Commercial Pilots license with an Instrument Rating.

    - Log a minimum number of flight hours determined by the FAA. This typically includes 1500 hours of total flight time, including 500 hours of cross-country time, 100 hours of night-time, 50 hours in the class of airplane for the rating, 75 hours of instrument rating, and 250 hours of pilot in command.


    Flight Time Breakdown:

    • Pilot In Command: Of the 250 hours, 100 hours must be in powered aircraft preferably multi engine and can include 50 hours of helicopter time
    • Cross Country Flight: Of the 500 hours of cross-country time, at least 200 must be in helicopters
    • Night Flight: Of the 100 hours of night flight, at least 15 hours of must be in helicopters with 10 night takeoffs and landings.


    4. Knowledge Tests:

    You must pass the flowing FAA knowledge tests:

    ATP Practical Test: This includes both an oral exam and a flight test.


    5. Additional Requirements:

    • Training Program: Complete an FAA approved ATP Certification Training Program which includes:

    -30 hours of classroom instruction

    -10 hours of simulator training

    (including 6 hours in a Level C or higher full flight simulator)


    • Documentation: Log book endorsements by authorized instructors for all required flight time and training
    • Application:  FAA Form 8710-1: Complete and submit Airman Certificate and/or Rating Application
